As the school year is coming to an end, so is Mr. Turner’s time as a social studies teacher at Clarkstown North. Mr. Turner taught at Clarkstown North for thirty two years, and has been very involved in the school. He has been coaching Girls Field Hockey for the past 31 years, and was even named Rockland County’s Field Hockey Coach of the Year by The Journal News in the fall. He says he plans to continue coaching Girl’s Field Hockey even after his retirement. Additionally, he has coached the Clarkstown North Mock Trial Team for over a decade, helping the team win Rockland County championships three times in the past four years- including this past 2026 season. In fact, when asked what his favorite memory was from North, he answered, “Winning Mock Trial championships.”
His favorite class to teach at Clarkstown North was SUPA Sociology, an elective class that he taught in the first semester this past school year. Alongside SUPA Sociology, he taught 9R Global and Mock Trial: Intro to Law H, the latter of which is a new elective that was added this school year and inspired by th. He notes that he will miss the students the most at Clarkstown North.
As a veteran teacher, he has decades of experience working as not only a teacher, but also a coach and club advisor for Clarkstown. Not only that, but he has advice to give to new teachers at North. He advises them to “enjoy your students and remember, the most important thing you can teach them is to think deeply and creatively.”
What are his retirement plans? Mr. Turner says he intends to “spend more time at my lake house, do some substitute teaching, and figure it out from there.” He plans to continue to serve the school through coaching and substitute teaching, which reflects his dedication to serving the Clarkstown North community even after retirement.
Mr. Turner has been a vital part of the Clarkstown community for the past 32 years as a respected teacher, coach, and advisor. The Social Studies Department- and school as a whole- will miss his presence.
