The end of this school year starts a new chapter of life for science research teacher and robotics advisor Dr. Schuchman. He plans to retire after 24 years of teaching. Dr. Schuchman is a very active member of the North community; his significant contributions and dedication will be missed by the school, faculty, and students.
When asked his favorite memory from his years teaching, Schuchman recalled a specific moment that has stuck with him all this time: “There are many fond memories, but one that stands out is Greg Derasmo trying to give me a Nestle Crunch bar.”
Dr. Schuchman always brought enthusiasm to North’s science department, teaching many courses, especially with a passion for teaching Science Research and Principles of Engineering. “It is the authentic learning experiences I enjoyed facilitating the most,” he says. When Schuchman leaves North, he will miss the people the most. The students, colleagues, and “all of the people that work to make it easier for me to do my work–custodial staff, maintenance/B&G, security staff, our SROs and Judith!”
For his retirement plans, Schuchman will be traveling a lot. After the million miles he has traveled throughout his time, “There are at least a million more that won’t be Route 17.”
Schuchman has been an amazing and well-respected colleague, advisor, and beloved teacher. The school will miss him greatly, and miss having his dog, O’Malley, around, also.
