The first month of the Spring season has been exciting and North athletics have really made a statement. This article features updates on the teams of the Spring season–from wins to highlighted players.
Girls’ Lacrosse:
Following a tough 2024 season, girls’ varsity lacrosse has come out strong for 2025. Now coached by alumni Coach Donegan and Coach Pisano, the team have had an exciting start to the season. With a current record of 5-5, they are set to face Port Chester on Friday 4/24 and are hoping to advance to 6 wins. To open the season, the girls had a strong win over Nanuet, and, following that, they won 23-3 against Yonkers. In addition, they beat New Rochelle 17-3 and Port Chester 17-0. In the past week the team had a huge win over South, winning 8-7 after pulling away in the first quarter and never looking back. In the win, freshman Gianna Pocalyko had 1G and 2A, senior Kiki Ottenheimer had 4G, senior Tea Robins had 2G and 2A, senior Avery Miele had 1G, and junior goalie, Blythe Leahy, had 18 saves and 1A.
Many milestones have also been achieved this season. Blythe Leahy, as a junior, accomplished 300 saves in the game against Yonkers and Kiki Ottenheimer earned her 100th goal when playing against Horace Greeley. Kiki was also nominated for Lohud Player of the Week. Prior to the season, Avery Miele, Tea Robins, Gianna Pockalyko, Blythe Leahy, and Kiki Ottenheimer made the Lohud watchlist.
Girls’ Softball:
The varsity girls’ softball team have had three straight wins against Pearl River, Scarsdale and Brewster, and are set to face Suffern on Monday 4/28. The team currently hold a record of 6-3 and have their first league games next week. First, the Rams won 10-5 against Pearl River where senior Maddie Smith tied the game at 5-5; this was followed by back-to-back hits from captains Siena Decicco and Marlee Levin to seal the win. Next, the girls had a big win over Scarsdale. Peyton Conti was named player of the game and had 4 hits, a 2B, 3 runs, and 2 RBIs. It didn’t stop there– against Brewster, they won 9-7 in 9 innings. Led by captain Marlee Levin, Levin went 5-5, had a double, 5 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and 3 home runs; her 3rd HR was in the 9th inning and won the game for North, earning her player of the game. Levin, a junior, was also nominated for Lohud Player of the Week and earned 100 hits in the game against Pearl River. Freshman Peyton Conti was also a standout in this win, getting 2 hits, including a double, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. She also had a huge 7th inning HR. 8th grader Amaya Hall also had 4 strikeouts. Earlier in the season they also had big wins over Yonkers and New Rochelle.
Flag Football:
Currently the teams record sits at 3-3 and they are set to face North Rockland this week and are looking for a league win. In their opening game of the season against Ossining, the team won 12-6. Sarah Weissman threw a game winning touchdown pass to Emily Savedoff to give them the lead with 7 seconds left. Overall, senior Sarah Weissman had 2 passing touchdowns, senior Emily Savedoff had 5 receptions and 1 touchdown, and junior Claire Riordan had 4 receptions and 1 touchdown. Following that win, Ctown defeated Arlington, with Sarah Weissman having 3 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown, and Emily Savedoff having 1 receiving touchdown. Defensively, Sarah Weissman had 2 interceptions and Taylor Jacobs had 1 interception. In their 3rd win of the season against Wappingers, they won 19-6. Offensively, Weissman had 2 passing touchdowns and Savedoff had 2 receiving touchdowns. Defensively, Weissman had 1 interception. Sarah Weissman was also nominated for Lohud player of the week.
Baseball:
The Rams hold a overall record of 5-6 on the season and a 2-1 league record. Their next game is against Tappan Zee but next week they face South. Recently the Rams had a big win over North Rockland, winning 12-11. The team scored 12 straight to erase a 9-0 deficit against NR. Colton Fleming pitched 2.2 in relief to help with the win. In addition to this the team also picked up wins over Somers, Tappan Zee, Nyack and Horace Greeley. Junior Quinn Miller was nominated for Lohud Player of the Week.
Boys’ Lacrosse:
To open the season, the varsity boys’ lacrosse team had a tough loss to Clarkstown South but quickly bounced back to earn a huge 16-1 win over Port Chester. Following that win, and to open league play, they had a 6-4 win over Nanuet. The team will play Brewster and Wappingers in the next week.
