Fall sports have officially arrived. From the whistle on the soccer field to serving on the volleyball court, athletes across North are fueled with determination to make the fall season a great one. With fans filling the football stands every Friday and teams pushing towards big goals of section playoffs, this fall will surely be one to remember.

Football
This fall, the North varsity football team is confidently rewriting their story. Starting the season with an impressive 3-0 record, the team has been shocking the section– opponents and fans alike– with their determination. Their biggest win so far is a thrilling 43-33 over #7 ranked Mahopac, a win that proves this Rams team is no longer to be underestimated. They are finally getting their recognition, and have replaced Mahopac on the Lohud rankings, moving from 9th-7th, and most recently gained the #5 spot. In addition, they have secured wins over Nyack and Waldwick, which continues to build their momentum.
One of the team’s biggest standouts has been Jack Kavanagh, who was named LoHud player of the week after countless dominant performances. In the win over Waldwick, he ran for 120 yards and scored 2 touchdowns. Also in this game, Chase Firenze added another touchdown, while Alex Mulackal delivered two touchdowns and three receptions. Defensively, Owen McGovern had a big interception.
Additionally, the team had a strong defense in the second half against Mahopac, improving their record to 2-0. Most recently, the Rams faced Nyack in a 47-19 victory. Kavanagh passed for 219 yards and 2 TDs. Eyal Gabai had 88 rushing yards and 2 TDs. Ben Ferrara also had 1 rushing touchdown and Jarius Carreno had a touchdown reception. On the defensive side, Justin Chazan as well as Eoin Barry both had 6 tackles each and led the Rams defensively.
The Rams faced Westchester powerhouse Rye, ranked #2 in New York state, on 9/26 and though they took their first loss of the season, it just fueled them with determination to take against Carmel on 10/3. The Rams picked up yet another win (13-11) against Carmel, making their overall record 4-1.
Additionally, Coach Trongone was named New York Giants Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week. On 10/11 the Rams are set to face yet another strong team from Westchester, Harrison.

Girls’ Soccer
The girls varsity team is on a mission for redemption this fall. After coming up short in key games last season, the Rams are determined to climb higher on the standings and earn a home playoff game in October.
Last year the Rams entered the postseason as the 13th seed but pulled off a shocking upset over the number two seed in the opening round. Coming up short in the quarterfinals really set their goals for this season. However, with eight seniors graduating and only nine returning players, this squad consists of many new faces.
Despite almost a full new roster, they opened with a dominant win over Ardsley, 2-1, that set the tone for the games to follow. They then had a big win against Nanuet 3-0. 8th grader Maddie Ryan scored her first varsity goal with a header off an assist from junior Julia Kravitz. In the second half sophomore Emma Mansfield also scored her first Varsity goal assisted by Layla Dobelle. To close out the win, Junior Amanda Bialek scored an amazing free kick from the 30 yard line. This game also showcases 8th grader Maddie Mulvaney’s first varsity game as goalkeeper.
On 10/6 the girls faced the Suffern Mounties. Other than South, Suffern have proved to be their second biggest rival. Going into the game, they only had one thing on their mind– to win. They took the lead early with a first half goal from Sophomore Emma Mansfeild, assisted by Junior Brianna Winrow. Just 10 minutes later Suffern received a hand ball in their defensive box, causing a penalty kick for the Rams. Junior captain Amanda Biolek stepped up for the team and scored. To close out the game, Junior Julia Kravitz scored off a corner kick from Junior Hannah Girling, to make the final score 3-1. The team still has a big week coming up, including 2 league games. They face Tappan Zee, and South.

Boys’ Soccer
Boys’ Varsity soccer has truly opened strong this fall, with a string of dominant victories. The season kicked off with a 5-1 win over Yonkers where Luis Aguilar, Nate Charles, Nick Catina, Kevin Moran, and Miguel Nino Jr. all contributed goals in the big victory. This momentum carried into the next game against Scarsdale B where the Rams won 6-2. This too carried into a huge win over Carmel in a hard fought 2-1 victory with goals from Josh Deskin and Nick Fatini- both assisted by Nate Charles. But, their most satisfying win came against South, where the Rams earned a 2-0 shutout. Both Josh Deskin and Kevin Moran found the back of the net. Suffern came next with a strong 3-2 win. Josh Deskin scored two while Jackson Parraga scored 1. The team also tied Ramapo 0-0. Their current overall record for the season is 5-4-1. With this strong start, the Rams have clearly shown they are a powerful contender in section 1 this season.
