
It has been an exciting winter season for North athletics. From basketball to wrestling and gymnastics, teams have been stacking up victories. This article highlights major rivalry wins and team updates as the regular winter season comes to a close. With playoffs approaching and spring sports on the horizon, there’s plenty more action to come.
Boys Basketball:
What a month it has been for Clarkstown North Rams Boys Basketball, who ended the season with a record of 11-9. Early last month, North beat South in a heated rivalry game, winning by only one point– and they did it again a few weeks later, winning the Orlando Games.
In their win against Horace Greeley, Rotimi Esiso led the team with 21 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Brandon Gelb added 11 points and Jack Kavanagh contributed 9 points. The team also earned a big win over Mahopac in the Obama Tournament, with Kyle Kirkland scoring 17 points and Rotimi Esiso adding 8 points and 7 rebounds.
Earlier in the season, North dominated Ramapo with a 78-36 victory, and in their most recent matchup, they secured another win (51-37). They also won their Gio Strong game against Spring Valley (77-70), with Jack Kavanagh and Rotimi Esiso combining for 54 points. Rotimi Esiso was also listed in KDJs five stars of the week, given All-Section honors, and named the Hoop Haven player of the week.

Hockey:
Early this month, Clarkstown Hockey secured back-to-back victories against the Cortlandt Rebels. They dominated their first road game with a 9-2 win, then followed up with a thrilling 5-4 victory on senior night at home.
C-TOWN Hockey continued this momentum in the playoffs, defeating Mount Pleasant in the first round of the playoffs on February 21. They put up a good fight but lost to Rivertownduring the quarterfinal round of the Section 1 Boys Ice Hockey Tournament.

Wrestling:
It has been a historic season for North Wrestling. On January 10th, the Rams defeated Nanuet in a big 43-27 win at home. Captains Will Roden and Ryan Ciardullo scored bonus point victories. This win put their season record at 16-4.
Following that, the team had a huge rivalry win over Suffern 62-6. Sam Rose, Jeremy Small, Alex Perez, Ian Hung, Ryan Ciardullo, Issac Brightly, Will Roden, Chris Gonzalez, Frank Ciardullo, and Micheal Ponce all had victories.
At the Scarsdale tournament, competing against twenty teams, North placed third overall. They also placed third as a team at the Rockland County Championships. At this event, Will Roden and Sam Rose claimed individual titles, while eight additional wrestlers secured podium finishes.
This season, North Wrestling broke the school record for most team wins in a single season with their victory over South. Additionally, Jeremy Small also achieved his 100th career victory.
At the section qualifying tournament, Jack Granata and Ian Hung both earned first place finishes, along with multiple other podium finishers for the Rams. The team tied yet another school record by sending 10 wrestlers to Sections.

Girls Basketball:
Though North suffered a tough early-season loss to South, the team bounced back in a big way on senior night, during the Orlando Games. From the beginning, the Rams took an early lead and never looked back, securing a 46-44 win against the Clarkstown South Vikings.
Seniors Emily Savedoff and Bella Lopez, along with sophomore Natalia Clemente, were standouts of the night. Siena Decicco, Julianna Rivera, and Brianna Winrow also played crucial roles in securing the win.

Gymnastics:
Late last month, Clarkstown Gymnastics competed at Eclipse Gymnastics, placing second with a team score of 165. In their final home meet of the season, the Girls achieved a new high score as a team, scoring 171 points.
The Clarkstown girls continued their strong performances at divisionals, placing second with a score of 169. Impressively, six team members qualified for sectionals, and Angelina DaPonte earned a spot on the state team.
