The beginning of this school year brought a new course: Mural Painting! Many students have taken part in this course, working during class to beautify our school. Under the guidance of Ms. Dunn, each student designed their mural and drafted ideas for what represents the school. Each mural is unique and adds a touch of personality to the building.

The students who painted the murals are thrilled with the finished products. “The class was super fun. We got to all make ideas for the murals and then vote for our favorites,” said Mia Zambri, one of the students who participated in the mural painting. “Eventually we got into painting in about October. Just standing in the hallway and painting is so entertaining. It was my eighth period, and it went by so fast.”

These paintings are located in the Annex and X-wing, making these hallways more inspiring for the students who walk them. “We designed our murals around the words already present on the walls. Specifically, the mural I worked on, Determination, in the staircase in the X-wing. The way the word went up the wall inspired me to make it into a cliff with a girl determined to climb up. I did most of the painting, but I had a partner who glazed the butterflies we added. The butterflies add some nice texture,” said Elizabeth Sigerson. “The class was a unique opportunity to get to paint on the walls of the school and it’s very exciting to get to design a mural knowing it will be up on the wall forever. It’s like leaving your mark at the school. I also learned a lot and you get to try things that you might not do otherwise. For example, I got to try painting on a tall ladder and I probably wouldn’t have done this otherwise.”
The Mural Painting class has been a success, granting students the unique opportunity to express their creativity and leave their lasting mark at Clarkstown North. The vibrant murals not only beautify the hallway, but also create a more inspiring and engaging learning environment for the entire school community.
