This year, North’s drama club, Cue and Curtain, performed Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream as the annual fall play on November 21, 22, and 23.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a comedy written by William Shakespeare. It follows four young lovers and a group of amateur actors trying to navigate a magical forest, encountering troublesome fairies and other magical creatures along the way.
The play featured ‘in the round’ seating, with about a hundred attendees on stage, rather than being seated in the auditorium. This allowed the audience to get an up close view of the actors. The Stage Crew worked on building raised platforms made from wood, extending the stage for the audience to sit on, as well as building many trees and greenery to turn the stage into a one-of-a-kind magical forest. Crew members worked with both real and faux tree branches to create the effect of the forest surrounding the audience.
“Everyone put a tremendous effort, both in giving the production their time and effort. With these efforts, the set for the play has turned out great. Being part of Stage Crew calls for a lot of commitment, since we attend meetings much more as the play’s deadline approaches. Belonging to crew has been memorable, and an overall awesome experience,” said Madison Sabater, tech director.
With the help of Stage Crew’s hard work and creativity supporting the talented cast, A Midsummer Night’s Dream was a magical experience, with all four performances completely sold out.
