This April, the CHSN Poetry Club, along with many other passionate writers, participated in the annual Spring Poetry Reading. These special Poetry Reading events, organized by the Poetry Club, happen two times a year, once in the Fall and once in the Spring. These readings allow students to express their feelings and emotions as words flow, giving the audience a deep understanding of the piece. This reading took place at the New City Library, where students shared deep poems which they composed using imagination and inspiration.
What is the Poetry Club?
The Poetry Club is a literary club where students are able to write about whatever is on their mind. They are free to share their poetry and combine their thoughts in a safe space. At the meetings, the club offers food and beverages to the students, making it an enjoyable experience for the members. The Poetry Club has a few Poetry Reading throughout the year, where non-club members as well as active members can join in and share their poetry together. Whether these readings are virtual, or in person, students can share their poetry as a way of expressing their thoughts and feelings.
At this particular event, there was a special guest: nationally recognized and honored Rockland County Poet Juan Pablo Mobili attended the Spring Reading this month. Mobili even read some of his own work with the students that attended. Previously, Mobili attended an April Poetry Club meeting and led a fun lesson, while also teaching the class a little bit about himself. At the reading, Mobili listened to the poetry and gave snaps to the students. After the reading, the young poets conversed with Mobili on similarities in their poems and shared thoughts as well.
