As I have navigated my time as a student, I have struggled to find my ‘niche,’ that one thing that I can spend my time on and be proud of the results that come from it. When I entered North I remember just how nervous I was to move away from so many of my friends and go into a space so removed from what was familiar. But when I saw a poster advertising the school’s Drama club, I knew I had found it, my ‘niche.’ So I pulled out my phone, scanned the QR code and submitted my name to be notified of any upcoming meetings. By doing so I would meet a Senior who unknowingly changed my life. By the time my phone lit up with an email from the club, I was thinking my name had somehow missed the list. But it hadn’t, and I began regularly attending their meetings. As the set sprang up I grew closer with the others on crew, and by the time opening night was a mere two weeks away, our numbers had dwindled down to 5 consistent members. That senior being one of them. He encouraged me to continue attending and was the reason I had stayed so dedicated to the club. He reignited my passion for theater production without realizing it. He continues to support my passions past graduation. He is who I can credit for my love of theater and the reason I am pursuing it as a career.
